Spring Cleaning & the Chakras

If our life and all that which surrounds us is a reflection of our innermost selves, nothing in the material world is a closer reflection than our home. Our home often encases are most-loved people and plays witness to our most authentic selves. Here we are “home” in so many ways, and it says a lot about us.

Years ago I read an article that correlated individual chakras to various rooms in our home, and it make perfect sense to me. I have since taken “Spring cleaning” to a whole new level. So much of our life is symbolic. How else can we explain why we feel drawn to certain types of music, people, books, movies, colors, etc? Why else does it feel SO DAMN GOOD to sit in a clean leaving room or crawling into bed with fresh sheets? When we clean, we are clearing out our chakras and energy systems, too! Not to mention Spring itself is very symbolic of birth and re-awakening. (Insert winky-eyed emoji)

Rooms and living spaces typically represented by each chakra:

  • Crown Chakra: Attic, Roof, Rain Gutters
  • Brow/Third Eye Chakra: Den, Home Office, Windows
  • Throat Chakra: Living Room, Family Room,
  • Heart Chakra: Kitchen, Dining Areas
  • Solar Plexus Chakra: Bathrooms, Personal Spaces
  • Root Chakra: Basement, Crawl Spaces
  • Aura: Porches, Decks, Landscaping, Garages

Makes sense right?! Cluttered spaces, areas we avoid or hate, rooms we never seem to get to despite “trying” – all these things can shed light on where we may need some work, healing, or clearing internally. For instance, clearing out a packed attic could help one feel more connected to their spirituality or religion. Repainting the deck or cleaning out the flower beds could easily have one feeling lighter overall – an auric cleansing. Deep cleaning the master bedroom, closet, and bathroom could reignite a passion that may be feeling dull.

I recommend one room at a time, in no particular order. Let one whole day be for cleaning one whole room and involve various family members whenever possible- wash the windows, go through each drawer, dust EVERYTHING, scan the collection of books – is there anything that could go? We spot-washed walls, vacuumed under our sectional couch, wiped down stair-rails and baseboards. We asked ourselves if the room could use something new – updated photos, new curtains, a new rug, throw pillow? Can the furniture be moved? We just did our family room, and since then, it’s the only place I want to be!

This year and those ahead, may we all “spring clean” with intention and joy. Happy clearing, inside and out.
